Dear Undertones.

It’s about time after nearly 30 years, that I say those words.
Because you have given so much by doing what you do and simply being who you are.
You have given music to me, you were the start of it all, like a tree growing and stretching its branches. I discovered music through you in all its colours and directions.
As a 12 year old I stood amazed infront of my record player and listened to your songs – which were a revelation to me, and I knew, I will love you for a long, long time.
No other band made me smile and sing and dance like you, you gave me hope in dark times and kept me going on and you made the good times even better.
Listening to your songs means more than just hearing them, it’s a feeling, sheer emotion, it’s like being taken, boosted, hugged and carried, they are tangible, they are carved into my soul as they are with me nearly my entire life. These songs brought me together with wonderful people, deep and good friendships arose and so it became a real family-thing.
Yet I don’t adore and idolize you, you never were the guys that made me feel like I’ll have to faint when seeing you, you are way too much down to earth, so to me you are so spectacular because you are not. That’s why I love you.
For the joy, the music, the laughter, the equal footing, the inspiration and motivation, for the most special moments and encounters.
For me and everyone else I so deeply wish, that you go on. And on. Until you’re old and doddery.
Thank you for the last – and for the next decades.
To gain what is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else.
