Let’s Talk About Girls

You wanna know why I lost you?
You wanna know what's wrong with you?
But nothing's wrong girl, you’re feeling so tough
Just one girl for me and that ain't enough

Chorus
I gotta love them all babe, not just a few
I gotta love those pretty girls, it’s what I gotta do
Oh yeah, let's talk about girls (let’s talk about girls)
I said yeah (let’s talk about girls), let's talk about girls (let’s talk about girls)
Girls that beg for more

See the pretty girl there, just walking by
Turns me on when she gives me the eye
There goes another, looking so fine
I won't be happy till I make her mine

Repeat chorus

HOWEVER: In June 2015 we heard from Manny......

Hi guy
Thanks so much for recording my song -- but ya got da wrong words (maybe better than the originals, but not what I wrote):Here they are. I mean, I have no problem with the words of your version -- just thought you'd get a kick out how they differ....
Best
Manny

YOU WANNA KNOW WHY I’M NOT TRUE
YOU WANNA KNOW WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU
NOTHIN’S WRONG GIRL YOU’RE REALLY TOUGH
(BUT YOU’RE) JUST ONE GIRL AND THAT AIN’T ENOUGH

I GOTTA LOVE ‘EM ALL BABY NOT JUST A FEW
GOTTA LOVE ‘EM ALL THAT’S WHAT I GOTTA DO -- OH YEAH
TALK ABOUT GIRLS – GIRLS THAT I CAN’T GET
TALK ABOUT GIRLS – GIRLS I NEVER MET

TALK ABOUT GIRLS – GIRLS THAT LIVE NEXT DOOR
GIRLS THAT BEG FOR MORE

SEE THAT LITTLE GIRL GO WALKIN’ BY
TURNS ME ON WHEN SHE GIVES ME THE EYE
THERE GOES ANOTHER ONE LOOKIN’ SO FINE
WON’T BE HAPPY TIL I MAKE HER MINE

REPEAT CHORUS

NOW YOU’RE CRYIN’ SAY ‘DON’T MAKE ME SAD’
OH BABY THAT’S JUST TOO BAD
SORRY GIRL IF YOU DON’T LIKE MY SPEED
EVERY LITTLE GIRL’S GOT JUST WHAT I NEED

REPEAT CHORUS: (FIRST TWO LINES: I GOTTA LOVE ‘EM ALL BABY NOT JUST A FEW COME HERE BABY THAT MEANS YOU TOO -- YOU KNOW WHAT I WANT)

Hi Manny,
Damian O'Neill, guitarist with the Undertones here.
Just wanted to say it's a real pleasure and honour to hear from you.
Many thanks for taking the trouble to point out the original lyrics to Let's talk about girls.
To be honest, cos we recorded your song so long ago ('79), I'm not sure why we made amendments to the lyrics.
No matter. It's a great song and we only hope you approved of our version.
We would've first heard it via the Chocolate Watchband on Lenny Kayes Nuggets compilation way back in '76 so that explains why we left out the 3rd verse.
It was only years later that we finally heard the original (and best) Grodes cut.
Hope you don't mind but as we don't usually get correspondence from esteemed musician/songwriters such as your self, we would love to copy your email onto our web site but only with your approval of course.

Kind regards,

Damian

Damian
Are you kidding?! I'M the one who is honored -- to hear from YOU! I LOVED your version of the song, and it's a bit of a laugh that I even sent a correction: I was infamous for constantly changing lyrics to songs because -even then - I couldn't remember all the words.
The laugh is that you guys are the reason I even heard about the Nuggets recording - ridiculous but true that I didn't know for nearly two decades that the song had enjoyed ANY kind of 'afterlife.'
The song didn't do well for us in Tucson, '66, and our producer said, 'how'd you like to have the Standells record your song?' 'Wow, yeah, I say. I heard they recorded it - then I heard they broke up (my career pattern: good news followed by, 'oops, sorry').
So I'm at my job as exec asst to the pres at A&M Records in'80. A new exec who had been a rare record dealer comes up and says, 'are you the real Manny Freiser?' I say, 'do I owe you money?' He says, 'you don't know, do you.'
So I start looking for royalties, and am told by both Elektra AND Sire, 'oh it (Nuggets) didn't sell at all.' 'Then why did it get re-issued?' Finally, I heard that it was the flip of your single in the UK, and called the British sub-publisher, a real honest guy who told me flat out that they were lying to me. He sent me a computer printout from the UK that 'refreshed'their collective memory, and finally led to me getting paid. So THANK YOU, UNDERTONES!!!!
And of course, feel free to use ANYTHING I send on your site. I'm flattered.
I hope we can keep in touch. I will always feel a bond with your band.

Thanks
Manny
